Death of HM Queen Elizabeth II: 8 September 2022

Today, September 22, the Prince and Princess of Wales met volunteers and operational staff involved in organizing the committal service for Queen Elizabeth at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle:

And Princess Anne as Commodore-in-Chief Portsmouth met Royal Navy personnel at Portsmouth Naval Base who had taken part in Queen Elizabeth's funeral procession:

Is Margaret also interned there - I remember her ashes placed in the same grave. Is she not on the ledger stone?

Her ashes are there, she is not mentioned on this ledger stone.
I'm going to assume there's a little plaque at least somewhere in the chamber.

If I remember rightly she is placed in an enclave with a plague. But a I may misremember it’s been a while.
 
I was not ready for this… very regal grave though. All she has been and represented is now just a name on the marble.

But why do they keep referring to her as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, omitting the regnal number?

The stone says "Elizabeth II". If you mean people on Twitter, perhaps because the Queen Mother has been dead for twenty years and the first Elizabeth for more than 400, so she is the most familiar "Queen Elizabeth".

Her ashes are there, she is not mentioned on this ledger stone.

I took it that JGio meant the name of Queen Elizabeth in the post of the Royal Family. There the regnal number "II" was omitted.

As for Princess Margaret's stone, yeps, I refer to my own post #580 :lol:

Somwhere it feels scary to see HM Queen Elizabeth II "just lying there". After all those decades, that's all that remains... her name on a ledger.

She has a far greater legacy than most people who have died, so I wouldn't say "That's all". Her memory and presence exist in thousands and thousands of places. And if you want to look at any of her numerous documentaries or media clips, she's alive and well.

She is certainly gone but she hasn't quite left.
 
So Princess Margaret’s stone ledger is just propped up against a wall? Couldn’t it at least have been cemented into a side wall in the vault? That just looks offhand and temporary. It’s ‘Oh well, let’s just put it there for the time being’.

I've never understood why some cultures only erect a gravestone after a year, but maybe this is part of it.

It is already on one of the Dutch royal websites, a picture of the stone of queen Elizabeth II next to her husband, the late prince Philip & her parents, plus extensive details of the royal burial.

because it takes some time for the ground of a grave to settle and for the weight of a gravestone to be placed on it.

I meant the Royal Familly’s social media omit the regnal number. It happens in the last two posts. But HM QE was the name of the Queen Mother when she was The Queen. So it’s all quite confusing, being her just a Consort. It’s like saying King George, which is literally many people [emoji23]
 
When the family visit do they also see the chapel from the iron gates?
The stone looks squeezed in. Why not put the letters to the direction of the gate?

I like Margaret’s stone but it does look a bit temporary the way is stands now.
Were her children present at the burial?

From the plan of the chapel, the gate is the only entrance. The direction of the letters is very weird, but maybe more regal than placing them horizontally. But just my guess.

I hope the family can visit the chapel often at this time. They need their own privacy.
 
So, the honor to formally report her mother's death was given to Anne.
 
It might not be reasonable to be shocked when a frail 96 year old passes away but I was.

Her smile just 48 hours before the end when she received the new PM was so reassuring. And just like Prince William, part of me expected that she would live forever.

RIP Your Majesty.

Surname Windsor for Elizabeth and her parents.

HRH, no surname Mountbatten, and no (deceased) for Philip. Was his death certificate released?

Has Anne ever used her married surname? For her first wedding, she used Mountbatten-Windsor, for her second marriage she didn’t use a surname.
 
I'm glad they've released HMQs death certificate but it's still so sad actually seeing it. Something I've always liked about Scottish death certificates (as opposed to English ones) is the inclusion of the deceased's parents and their occupations. It can be helpful when researching family history back to 1855 (no statutory certs before then). Particularly useful when you have an ancestor born around 1780 and can't find their baptism to establish their parents - lo and behold there they are on the ancestor's death certificate (1855 onwards).

Her official name/title is HRH the Princess Royal, Mrs Timothy Laurence, but I can’t think where she’s ever used Laurence.

I agree with your thoughts. I was shocked, even though she had gotten more frail this year. I guess I was in denial. I really expected her to live as long as the Queen Mother did.
